Center for the American Idea - Speakers Gleaves Whitney is the director of the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. He has been senior fellow of the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal since 1995. He has been senior scholar at the Center for the American Idea since 1998. He received his postgraduate education at the University of Michigan, where he was a Weaver Fellow (1987-1988) and an Earhart Fellow (1988-1991). He was the chief historian for Michigan Governor John Engler. In 1993, he served on the governor's task force on education, whose work led to the enactment of far-reaching reforms that the New York Times called "the most dramatic in the nation." Mr. Whitney is the author or editor of more than ten books (six of them in the forthcoming Messages of Michigan Governors series). He has contributed to five other books, and has written for numerous publications. |
